Formatting lists

This user guide can be used to format lists in the Preliminaries, Body and Addenda

1. Click Styles on the Dashboard

2. A new window opens up

3. Select the Style you would like to edit by clicking on the title

4. A new window opens up and shows several Style tabs. Click on the Body (Preliminaries or Addenda) tab

5. A new window opens up showing all the sections collapsed

6. Open the Lists section

7. There are three types of lists: (a) numbered, (b) bulleted, and (c) outlined. The formatting is the same process for each

8. First select the list number or bullet  for each level using the drop-down menu. Your selection here will feed into the {ListNumber} data field in the template

9.  Next, to create a template for each list level, click on the object where the {ListNumber} and {ListText} data fields are and a format menu will appear

10. Add any text you require before the data fields (e.g., a bracket), between the data fields (e.g.,the end of the bracket,  a colon, a dash or full stop), or after the data fields (e.g., a full stop)

11. Next, highlight the text you wish to format and use the formatting tools in the side menu (e.g., font, size, line spacing, bold, italics, underline and alignment, indentation)

12. The indentation choices are as follows:

  • Block, keeps all lines of text together
  • First line: this only indents the first line of text
  • Hanging: this indents the second and further lines of text

13. Change any other list templates as required

14. To save your changes, click the Save Changes button on the top. Note that you cannot save changes to a Public Style. To do that you will need to click Save as new style and give it your different name

  1. To preview indentation choices, add a few words after the data fields so that a few lines appear and then change the indentation choices to see how they work
  2. To preview your formatted lists, export your project using the Style you have just changed or saved
  3. To change the Style you are using for a specific project, return to the Dashboard and edit the Project Settings
