Formatting headings

This user guide can be used to format headings in the Preliminaries, Body and Addenda

1. Click Styles on the Dashboard

2. A new window opens up

3. Select the Style you would like to edit by clicking on the title

4. A new window opens up and shows several Style tabs. Click on the Body (Preliminaries or Addenda) tab

5. A new window opens up showing all the sections collapsed

6. Open the Headings section

7. There are two components: (a) setting the heading numbering style, and (b) creating templates for each heading level

8. Set the heading number by clicking the button for: list, outline or none, and then selecting the style using the drop-down menu. Your selection here will feed into the {HeadingNumber} data field in the heading template

9. To create a template for each heading level, click on the object where the {HeadingNumber} and {Heading} data fields appear and a format menu will appear

10. First, add any text you require before the data fields (e.g., Chapter, Part, Section), between the data fields (e.g., a colon, a dash or hit enter to move to a new line), or after the data fields (e.g., a full stop)

11. Next, highlight the text you wish to format and use the formatting tools in the side menu (e.g., font, size, line spacing, bold, italics, underline and alignment)

12. Change any other heading templates as required

13. To save your changes, click the Save Changes button on the top. Note that you cannot save changes to a Public Style. To do that you will need to click Save as new style and give it your different name

  1. To preview your formatted headings, export your project using the Style you have just changed or saved
  2. To change the Style you are using for a specific project, return to the Dashboard and edit the Project Settings
