Working with quotes

A long quote (often referred to as a Block Quote) is generally used to highlight a long quotation  The length of a long quotation is, typically, 3 lines or more. Otherwise the quote can be contained within the paragraph (an in-text) quote. Consult your official style guide to ascertain the length of a block quote.

  • A long quote is typically indented from a paragraph and provided in a smaller font, forming a block of text; hence, the name Block Quote
  • A long quote should always contain a reference, to indicate the source of your quotation
  • The length of a long quote is stipulated in Official Style Guides (typically, 3 lines or more)
