Citations in-text

    • Adopts the 'et al' rule for the particular style guide being applied
  • Author-date in brackets; for example (Glassop 2002)
    • Author only for some style guides
    • Adopts the 'et al' rule for the particular style guide being applied
  • Multiple citations in brackets; for example (Glassop 2002; Soka 2006)
  • Pinpoint pages get added to the citation; for example (Glassop 2002, p. 3)
  • Add a prefix & suffix, if required; for example (see Glassop 2002, p. 3, as an example)

Citations in Footnotes

Footnote citations are listed on the bottom of the page.

  • First entry
  • Ibid. can be included for consecutive citations
  • Short entry is often used for subsequent citations
  • Pinpoint pages get added to the citation
  • Add a prefix & suffix, if required

Citations in Endnotes

Endnote citations (the same as footnote citations) are listed at the end of the document.

  • Pinpoint pages get added to the citation
  • Add a prefix & suffix, if required

Citations in Images

Image citations can be added as a 'source' label (different from the title caption), a footnote or endnote, or can accompany the running title.

  • Add a legend (e.g., Source)
  • Include in-text cite (depends on the style guide being applied)
  • Add a footnote to include the citation, if required

Tips

  1. Always add the relevant page number(s) when you add a citation

  2. When adding a resource, always include a short title, as this can often be used for the subsequent entry
